Squawk

Oil 61 x 51cm
This painting is a result of a commission.  The restaurant, Le Coq, is just up the street from our studios and the Chef asked if we could do a painting of Le Coq.  There are three artists involved and we have all done our own interpretations. (I must add that my painting wasn't accepted because the rooster looked too angry)
I drew on memory of a particular roaster we had on the farm when I was about 3 years old.  I used to run up and down the side of the chook pen and the rooster, on the other side of the fence, would give chase.  Well, this was wonderful fun, for me at least.  However, when my father and I went into the chook pen to feed them, the rooster flew at me.  Whereby Dad threw the bucket at him.
So my impression of roosters is that they can be very angry, aggressive and noisy creatures.
