This was a sketch done to help me think about the painting above. I have changed the mood in the painting to suggest the wind and the roiling of the sea.

I had a real battle with this painting.  So it spend several weeks/months? turned towards the wall.

Finally, this week I took a fresh look at it and now it is finished.  I think!

This was done in the studio on a hot sticky summer's day.  However, painting is a very good way of completely forgetting about the weather!

It has a distinct modernist feel.  I must admit I love the modernists: artists like Grace Crowley, Dorrit Black, Grace Cossington Smith...

These four are all done in oil  and are of Callan Park which is across the road from the studio.

My aim was to keep the shapes very simple and the colours clean.

This is another drawing inspired from the sketch I posted a couple of days back.

I enjoy taking a sketch and then playing around with the shapes.  It is a process that doesn't always work but can sometimes lead to surprising outcomes.
