The Blueness of Blue

Mixed media on canvas 25x25cm
One of my influences here is the artist: Joseph Cornell. Was also contemplating on the aesthetics of the Bower bird.  Plus blue stands for the ocean, the sky, space.  In Christian iconography blue is the colour of the Virgin: of purity, the immaculate conception but a blue movie is the opposite.  And in jazz the blues is a melancholy, feeling sad.  In Australia if you are a red head then often your nickname is "blue", if you have a fight its a 'blue" and "true blue" is slang for an Australian patriot.  So, it seems that "blueness" covers a multitude of things.  And who knows how the female Bower bird makes her judgement?

Recontextualised

Mixed media 15 x 21cm
I found the word 'recontextualised' in this energetic collage to my amusement which gave me the idea for the title.
The piece of print was chosen for its tonality rather than the printed word.  But I like how the act of collage is taking something from one language and converting it to another; in other words: recontexualising.
