Condiments

Oil on canvas
This was a little still life exercise in painting glass, wood, stainless steel and a lemon.

Balmain Rowing Clubhouse

Ink and water colour on cartridge paper  21 x 14.8cm
I did this from Elkington Park, Balmain, sitting in the shade of a tree, with a beautiful view out to the Parramatta River.  It is a lovely way to spend a rather hot and humid summer's day.
My friend, however, was not quite so fortunate, in that whilst we were having our lunch, a bird left a legacy on her shoulder.  Then, having resumed painting, a dog came by and peed on her canvas: obviously not and art lover.

Iron Cove Bridge

Water colour 148 x 210 mm
Went sketching today with a friend.  A very pleasant way to spend a summer's day.
I was just near the Dawn Fraser Baths in Balmain looking back at the Iron cove Bridge.
This is a heritage listed bridge which links the suburbs Drummoyne to Rozelle.

Peeled and Unpeeled

Oil on canvas

Oil on canvas
This was an exercise in painting hard and soft edges; a useful technique for helping either sharpen the focus, make a section come forward or  soften the focus so that a form recedes.  'Unpeeled' has sharp edges and 'Peeled' has soft edges.  I found painting 'Peeled' easier, but will certainly take the challenge to paint an apple core again, with all its interesting facets.  I might even remember to squirt the lemon juice evenly next time.
