Cliffs

Watercolour 210 x 148mm
What attracted me to this was the contrast between rock and the tuffs of grass.

Lake

Watercolour and ink 105 x 150mm
This was a small preliminary sketch that I did prior to the main event, just done on cartridge paper.  This painting is so much fresher than the more carefully studied second attempt. So I have posted this one and not the one I intended!

Coastline II

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
I had a couple of attempts at doing this scene.  Often it takes several attempts before I have really thought my way into solving the problem.  My first attempt I thought was rather dull so with this one I pushed the colour and by leaving plenty of white paper ensured that the paint didn't bleed into the colours too much.  So I was able to do the whole painting in one sitting, wet into wet.

Sea and Rocks II

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
I was reading up on various watercolour techniques and one book suggested using sand paper to soften edges.  This particular painting is done on Arches paper, 300 gms which is a strong paper and quite forgiving.  So I sanded the waves crashing on the rocks which has produced an effect resembling spray.

Bassendean

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
It was so hot in Sydney today (the hottest summer on record) that this painting represents some wishful thinking, a cool memory.
This is inspired by a picnic I had with Bev, a very dear friend who lives in Bassendean,WA.   Bassendean is rimmed by the beautiful Swan river and during the summer Bev has many picnics with her family and friends at this idylic spot.

Rain Coming

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
Given the amount of rain that Sydney has had in the last 2 days this seems rather fitting. Plenty of heavy skies to observe.

Container Ship

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
The sea is a subject that I continuously revisit.  With its many moods and changes in light, depending on the weather, it is an excellent subject.
This painting was based on a visit to Botany Bay one rather stormy day.

Camperdown Memorial Park II

Watercolour 297 x 210mm
This beautiful park is just near me and provides plenty of inspiration.
The locals usually refer to this park as Church St Park which is its border on the north side expanding through to Australia St on the southern side.  Actually this land was all part of the St Stephen's graveyard and there are still bodies underneath.

These beautiful trees are to be found in the wonderful Callan Park in Lilyfield.
