Tamarama

This wonderful little beach is half way between Bondi and Bronte.  The name: Tamarama is thought to be derived from the aboriginal word: Gamma, Gamma meaning storm, and indeed this beach is subject to rips and turbulence making it one of the more dangerous beaches around Sydney.  From an artist's point of view, however, it has everything: sea, sand, surf and rocks!

Pearl Beach

I am really enjoying my return to painting seascapes.  There is something about the sea's perpetual movement that is so mesmerizing and it is a challenge to capture that movement and light in paint.

Harbour

Matilda Bay, WA

This beautiful bay is in Perth, WA just opposite the University of WA. 

Shaded and sheltered from the wind, it provides a lovely venue for swimming and picnics.

I have done this painting from memory.

This is a painting that I did several years ago.  I was going to give it the sack when I decided to repaint the background and liven it up using complimentary colours to the lemons.

Dancing Man

This painting is based on a small plastic toy which has a solar panel.  When the sunlight hits him he dances from side to side so vigorously he sets up a clacking noise.  He quietens down as the sun moves.  I believe the toy was merchandising for a movie named 'Nightmare at Christmas'.

It reminds me of the Mexican 'day of the dead' dolls.  Hence, with the plastic flowers and skull like head, I though the Dancing Man was a fun subject for still life.
