Summer's Day, Iron cove

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
What better way to spend the day than sitting in the shade beside the water.

Hawkesbury River

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
Very hot summers day and so a view of water is always cooling.

Brooklyn

Steps, Brooklyn Watercolour 148 x 210mm

Brooklyn Watercolour 148 x 210mm
This is an exquisite place on the edge of the Muogamarra nature reserve and the Hawkesbury River.  It takes an hour by train from Central Station and is a favourite location to meet up with a friend of mine who lives on the Central coast.

I drew a few more figures today. I think shopping and waiting for the bus is the theme.

This is a change of medium.  I have been doing a lot of watercolour landscapes.  So today I had the idea (inspired by William Kentridge) to draw some figures using brush and ink and using pages torn from magazines.  It is amazing how liberating it is to draw this way and I rather like the combination.

Double Bay Trees

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
I do think that sitting under the shade  of a tree, looking out towards the harbour whilst flicking some paint around is an idyllic way to spend one's time on a summers day.

Cove

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
This is a view of the Blackburn Cove/ Double Bay area but I have edited out all the little yachts and simplified the composition.

Blackburn Cove

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
A friend and I ventured to Blackburn Cove today to do some 'pleinair' painting.
And this spot is drop dead beautiful.  The magnificence of Sydney Harbour is truly something. Blackburn Cove is located east of Double Bay and sheltered from the sea breeze.
There is a harbour pool fenced of from the sharks and a pontoon which, from the shouts and squeals, is very popular with the swimmers.

Summer by the sea

Coast   Watercolour 140 x 180mm

Sea and Sand  Watercolour 148 x 210mm

Ocean Waves Watercolour 148 x 210mm

Sea and Rocks 210 x 148mm

It is the start of summer and the weather is heating up. It seems to have influenced my choice of subject. I have been doing a number of coastal studies using the wet in wet method to suggest sand and salt and that summer haze.  Also I am alternating between using Arches rough, medium and smooth paper.  The different types of paper allow me to play with the texture.

This is a new subject for me: a little look at the back garden.

Gosford

Watercolour 148 x 210mm

Watercolour 148 x 210mm
These mangroves are located just behind the Gosford Art Gallery.
There is a boardwalk there and it is a lovely peaceful place to have a picnic.
A friend and I had lunch here to the sound of lapping water.
