Squawk

Oil 61 x 51cm
This painting is a result of a commission.  The restaurant, Le Coq, is just up the street from our studios and the Chef asked if we could do a painting of Le Coq.  There are three artists involved and we have all done our own interpretations. (I must add that my painting wasn't accepted because the rooster looked too angry)
I drew on memory of a particular roaster we had on the farm when I was about 3 years old.  I used to run up and down the side of the chook pen and the rooster, on the other side of the fence, would give chase.  Well, this was wonderful fun, for me at least.  However, when my father and I went into the chook pen to feed them, the rooster flew at me.  Whereby Dad threw the bucket at him.
So my impression of roosters is that they can be very angry, aggressive and noisy creatures.

Self portrait at 70!

Pastel on tissue paper , 35 x 25cm
Finalist in Gallery Lane Cove self portraits in the age of Covid19
 Instagram @GalleryLaneCove

Not being able to continue with my life drawing at this point in time, unless through the filter of technology, I have resorted to self portraiture.  I use the mirror rather than a photograph.
And I have drawn on tissue paper, recycled from an old photograph album where the paper was used to protect the photos.  The paper is tinted, fragile, textured and translucent.  I think of this as providing a metaphor for our times under Covid 19 and myself at 70!

Attitude 2

Oil on canvas 50 x 40cm
This is based on a collage I did named Attitude.  I like the pose of a female taking up space.  It reminds me of cats who, when enraged, swell themselves up and take up space and despatch aggressors.  Well, that seems like a good thing.  Women need to take up more space.

Comfort

91 x 61cm Oil on canvas
This was worked from a collage I did recently titled: "Too close for Comfort."  I was drawn to the shapes and the hands encircling the figures.
