This motif was taken from photos of the oldest existing carpet, thought to be 2500 years old.

The carpet was discovered in a tomb in Siberia and is now in the Hermitage Museum.  The tomb was frozen over which preserved the carpet including its lustrous colours made from plant and insect dyes.  And the weavers would have been women.
