The Atomic
Oil on canvas 45 x 75cm Sold
The Atomic refers to an Italian coffee machine, and as such, is a piece of classic design from the 1950's. This was during the grim years of the 'cold war' when people everywhere were genuinely afraid of an Atomic war. There were 'Ban the bomb' marches in many cities across the Western world. The Italian's answer: a coffee machine!
I particularly like the form and the shadow shape of the machine.
And, given the machine's name, of course I had to put a red drape behind.
