Streetwise
Acrylic, canvas and paper on cardboard 36x38cm
This is a step away from figurative into pure composition: abstract art where I am interested in shape, colour and pattern.

Band aid box
Water colour, crayon, ink and pencil
The inspiration for these series of drawings is a band aid box.
I thought, after having a break from art whilst I was on holiday, that having a play with this shape would be a good way of getting back into the swing of things.

Salt and Vinegar
My attention in this work is to the composition; the arrangement of shapes and flattened forms.

Still life with lemon
Acrylic and collage on board 40 x 50cm
I have been moving towards the simplification of shapes and also exploring how the paint is applied.
I have used a combination of palate knife, bristle brush and scoring the surface with a sharpened wooden chop stick.

Still life with white pot
Acrylic on board 50 x 40cm
My process is to flatten the forms and scumble the paint but also sometimes use palate knife and the end of a brush to insize the surface.

Still life with black vase
Acrylic and collage on board 50x40cm

Man and birds
Collage and acrylic on board 50x40cm
I find birds and how we use their meaning quite interesting. They were seen are portends or a means of reading the future. Then certain birds are taken as symbols of a culture: the eagle was used as a military symbol to the Romans, Napoleon, the Nazis and the USA. Australia has an emu (a flightless bird) on their coat of arms. Certain birds such as the dove signify hope and peace. A raven is seen as bad luck or an ill omen. I am not sure what the birds are in this work or what they symbolise but they are certainly having sqawrk!
